The PrediBrainTrust has spoken! The definitive Pure Popcorn Action Movie is:
Die Hard
Tagline: It will blow you through the back wall of the theater!
With three initial nominations, four first-place votes and and two second-place votes, the 20-year old Die Hard "blew away" the competition. Congratulatory Gold Medals go to Roops, Oso and Stankow for nominating our eventual champion.
In a distant second place, the 2006 film Casino Royale (Tagline: Everyone has a past. Every legend has a beginning) also gets the popcorn flowing. Silver award for MandaX.
And hailing way back from 1984, the Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen-led Red Dawn (Tagline: The invading armies planned for everything - except for eight kids called "The Wolverines") successfully fought off a pair of close challengers to eke out the 3rd place spot. Bronze medal goes to Electroboy for his strong showing.

Also..
I saw this at the second-run theater one rainy night in 1988. I know it was a rainy night because the most memorable thing about that evening was my friend fishtailing his '71 Pinto into a 270 degree U-turn when we realized we'd driven past the theater [we missed the part that explains how Bruce Willis came to be running around a building shooting at the Scorpions].
