Cook's Illustrated, American

Permalink Submitted by rawdog on Wed, 08/09/2006 - 12:51pm.

Cook's Illustrated, American Scientist & GAMES. Thinking of letting GAMES expire since I only seem to take them on vacation. The others I read cover-to-cover.

Nope, I think Grammy forgot

Nope, I think Grammy forgot to renew. Maybe we should resubscribe for the Nibbler.

Economist (thanks bitekman!), Wired, Play, Dwell, Money, and Time Out Chicago. The last two on the list are gift subscriptions and I'm not sure I'll renew.

I voted 3-5 but it turns out to be 8

Harper's, New Yorker, Rodder's Journal, Hot Rod, Nines (Saab club magazine,) Make, Vice, Baffler... I think that's all. N.B.: I am about three months behind on all of these. My mail cubby is basically full.

Zero at present

Permalink Submitted by Ajax on Wed, 08/09/2006 - 6:28pm.

I'm down from a high of three dead tree 'zines; at one point when I was living in Austin I read Time religiously, GuitarOne half-heartedly, and Rolling Stone (which a cute high school girl was selling for college money) with angry discontent.

(It gave me something to do while I waited 30 minutes at a clip to download a 5-minute song with Napster on my dial-up modem. :)

I do e-subscribe to The New Republic Online, though, and I bought a gift subscription to Entertainment Weekly for my friend Joie. So I'm paying for two periodicals, and reading one.

Atlantic Monthly... and The

Permalink Submitted by notyou on Wed, 08/09/2006 - 8:49pm.

Atlantic Monthly... and The Baffler.

Over the years I've subscribed to AM, Harper's, The Nation, Golf Digest, National Geographic, and Cook's Illustrated.

I may re-up Cook's. I just now subscribed to Grassroots Motorsports.

Thanks for the reminder.

GRMS is awesome. That's pretty much the highest possible achievement in automotive journalism. Which admittedly is kind of a world'd-tallest-midget title, but still.

Do journals count?

Permalink Submitted by Erik on Thu, 08/10/2006 - 2:59am.

If so, I get Harper's, The Journal of Military History, and The American Historical Review [last of which I never seem to read, for obvious reasons if you actually read the article titles]. I'm also going to start getting Armed Forces and Society sometime soon here.

Kristin gets a bunch of magazines and journals.

Mags I'm considering picking up:

Strategy and Tactics

Computer Arts -- some beautiful stuff here

...and if I could find a mac-based magazine that was intelligently written without being a constant Steve Jobs Applause-O-Meter, that would be capital.

Zero for me

Permalink Submitted by misskaz on Thu, 08/10/2006 - 12:41pm.

I don't get any magazines myself. :(

wurd gets Make, Wired, and Linux Journal which I call Geek Journal every time it arrives. I usually read the Wired when he's done with it.

BTW, thinking about getting Paste, and would love Economist except for the price.

Just Scientiffic American.

Permalink Submitted by Arcane on Fri, 08/11/2006 - 5:29pm.

Just Scientiffic American. My father got it for the whole family so that we could have something to discuss when we met up.

But daddy I don't wanna wear the wolf suit.
